What’s In It For Me… In Heaven
Psalm 73:25 “Whom have I in heaven but You?...”
There’s an old song that says, “Sa langit wala ng beer…” (In heaven there is no beer). It’s something that drunkards look forward to in the afterlife. But they realize that it’s over when they kick the bucket.
When we think about heaven, what do we look forward to?
There are a lot of reasons why people want to go to heaven. For many, they want an escape from suffering damnation in hell. For some, they want to go to a better place than where they are right now. With all the hardships they experience they start to long for heaven. Other people miss their loved ones who passed away. Thinking that their loved one is in heaven, they want to be reunited with them and live happily ever after.
But this guy who wrote the Psalm was looking forward to nothing else or no one else but God. With all the wonderful things and creatures in heaven, he was never distracted. It was not the mansion, nor do the angels, not the saints, not even the golden floor and the gem stones that caught his attention.
Was it all just drama? I don’t think so. I believe that he understood the big difference between the value of God and all the heavenly creatures, that’s why he was able to say that He has nothing in heaven but God. I definitely believe that he has other things to enjoy in heaven but I think he was saying that none can take away the place of God in his heart. There’s no one and nothing that can compare to the beauty, the glory and the love of God. Everything else fades away when you behold God’s presence.
God, as the Bible describes, is so big that If you have Him in your heart you'll have no room for anything or anyone else. Idolatry in its simplest sense is having anyone or anything that is taking His place.
God gave you His all. He wants you to receive his all. Are you ready to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Do you believe that you truly have God? Are you enjoying everything about Him?
