Rewards of the Secret Place

“Life has never been this wonderful; knowing and believing that though we may not be able to bring anything material with us in the afterlife, we will be bringing an eternal harvest – the souls of men! For that, you will be greatly rewarded – here and now, even in eternity!”

by : Pastor Ovet T. Tamayo

Jesus tells us what not to do when we pray.

“5 And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. “ (Matthew 6:5 NKJV

But here, Jesus tells us what we ought to do when we pray.

6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:6 NKJV)

Jesus tells us what not to do when we fast.

“16 Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.” (Matthew 6:16 NKJV)

But here, Jesus tells us what we ought to do when we fast.

“17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,  18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”(Matthew 6:17-18 NKJV)

In both praying and fasting, Jesus teaches us that we should enter into the ‘secret place’ where our Father is; and in both occasions Jesus said that our Father sees what we do there and that He is willing to reward us for it openly and publicly. Your reward is determined by a secret place. Your secret place could be a solitary place, a mountainside, or even just a certain place where you go to meet with our Father to pray and communicate with Him.

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35 NIV)

“One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." (Luke 11:1 NIV)

“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” (Luke 6:12 NIV)

The rewards of Jesus after coming from the secret place were the public and open display of Gods power in His life. Your reward is determined by a secret place and this ‘secret place’ is “RELATIONSHIP”. It’s the place where you pray from. The rewards you will receive openly and publicly depends on the kind of relationship you have with the Father in the secret place. People would wonder; how do you do that? Why you are so strong and so blessed?

RELATIONSHIP means communion, fellowship, and communication. Communion means common union; you are united for a common thing; it is shared by 2 or more people; it is mutual, it is joint. Communion is intimacy; it’s an emotional and spiritual closeness; it’s a connection where something is communicated. Fellowship means 2 fellows on a ship. Communication is the basis of all relationships and without it, relationship does not exist.

There cannot be a common union or intimacy, not even emotional or spiritual closeness without communication. Even if there are 2 fellows on the ship, without the right communication, all they do is an exercise in futility. Without communication there is no communion, fellowship and relationship. Without relationship, you are merely practicing religion, an institutionalized system of men, of beliefs and practices relating to the divine. When you remove yourself from that place of relationship, you end up with religion; all you do is dead works without genuine results; without bringing transformation. Jesus calls them ‘hypocrites’. "5 am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. (John 15:5-6 NIV) (to be apart from God is ‘iniquity’)

God wants to bring all men into a relation-ship with His Son Jesus to make Him our Lord so we can all be free from iniquity. Iniquity means to be without law; it is the original sin of Satan, it is rebellion against God, it was the sin of Adam and Eve when they disobeyed God in the garden of Eden. We commit the same sin when we are the ones in control of our lives and not God; When we do our will and not His will

Iniquity causes hypocrisy, it causes the people to pretend that they are connected to the branch when in truth, they are not. Only the cross of Jesus can heal iniquity. As children of our Father, He expect and desires for us to come into the secret place where He is, in prayer and fasting so we can be cleansed of iniquity and to receive our reward and openly manifest His Glory. Our reward is “THE ANOINTING” of God upon our lives – His empowerment, His might, His wisdom. The anointing is our reward because we have been chosen for a very special task, a task the same with that of Jesus. Without His anointing, His enabling power, we will not be able to accomplish this assignment, we will miss our mark and so commit sin. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Acts 10:38 NKJV)

18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me, To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,  To proclaim liberty to the captives. And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. (Luke 4:18-19 NKJV)

What happened before this?

1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry” (Luke 4:1-2 NIV

14Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. (Luke 4:14-15 NIV

What was He tasked to do?

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me, To preach the gospel to the poor.” (Luke 4:18 NIV)

Jesus was empowered to preach (to evangelize) the poor. Poor is the word ‘ptochos’ (pto-khos) to lean on a crouch, afraid of falling, weak, the spiritually poor. It also means a beggar, a pauper with no material thing, living in poverty. GOSPEL means good news and the only good news for the poor is that he can and will be liberated from poverty, that he can be strong to achieve what God has planned for him before he was even born. “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV), You will be blessed to be a blessing – you will be encouraged so you can encourage others. YOU ARE THE CONDUIT!

“He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted”; (Luke 4:18 NKJV & KJV).Brokenhearted is the Gr. word ‘sontribo’ which means the heart is fragmented in pieces. Why do we have many broken hearted (wounded) people? Because of “soul-ties” – it is when you get close to a person physically, emotionally, even spiritually in an illegal manner. This means you have “unholy” relationships with people who don’t believe God, but even mock God with their unholy practices.

“1Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalms 1:1-2 NIV)

The “secret place” is your RELATIONSHIP with God and He will not tolerate any unholy relationship that you may have; our God is a “jealous” God. The jealousy of man is based on greed; but the jealousy of God is based on ‘love’, God knows your heart will be broken and fragmented when you enter into unholy relationships that’s why He is angry. God wants those who have broken hearts to be healed – and only the cross of Jesus can heal them – that’s why we need to bring them to the cross, that’s our assignment!

“16Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." (1 Corinthians 6:15-16 NIV)

Prostitute, somebody paid for sexual intercourse, somebody who is paid to provide sexual intercourse or other sex acts; somebody who degrades talent for money;somebody who uses a skill or ability in a way that is considered unworthy, usually for financial gain. In the bible, prostitution means having other gods as the sin of Israel when they prostituted themselves with the baals.

When a person fornicates (sex outside of marriage), commits adultery, unites with a prostitute, or prostitutes one’s self with unholy practices and other gods, even unites with a non-Christian; you become one with that person and every sin that person has becomes yours as well. Divorce gets many people to be cursed; when you re-marry, your curse becomes theirs and their curse becomes yours. Prostitution causes double-mindedness, it is the root of all iniquity, and it is the foundation of all generational curses. Everyone who is born is born with this iniquity – even babies.

Romans 3:23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Generational curses fragments the hearts, causes spiritual blindness,  captivity and bondage, idolatry and witchcraft, oppression and depression. We are commanded and anointed to “heal the broken hearted and set the captives free”; this is for the Glory of our Father in heaven.

Only when you have been to the secret place and had communion and fellowship with your Father can you be in the Power of the Holy Spirit, anointed to do His will. Life has never been this wonderful; knowing and believing that though we may not be able to bring anything material with us in the afterlife, we will be bringing an eternal harvest – the souls of men. For that, you will be greatly rewarded – here and now, even in eternity
