When You Pray

“Every relationship is based on communication, remove communication and you remove relationship. Relationship is established and edified by loyalty and faithfulness. If you talk to God, God will talk to you; if you don’t, He won’t.”

Is ‘change’ really possible? Can I really become ‘free’ from my bondage? Is it possible to have ‘victory’ everyday of your life? The answer is YES – YES – YES. But the next bigger question is: HOW? It is When You Experience an Encounter with God.

Luke 11:1 NIV “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."

The disciples could have asked Jesus to teach them many other things – heal the sick, share the Word, multiply the bread and the fish, even raising the dead; but they asked Him to teach them how to pray, WHY? Because they have witnessed for themselves the results of prayer in the life of their Master. Jesus would always be in communication with His Father before He did anything in His ministry and the results were both wonderful and powerful.

PRAYER: it is communication with God. Every relationship is based on communication, remove communication and you remove relationship. Relationship is established and edified by loyalty and faithfulness. If you talk to God, God will talk to you; if you don’t, He won’t. No other religion in the world demands personal relationship – only Christianity. Relationship and communication produces power.

Relationship is a place. It is the place where you communicate from, it is the place where you know God. Anything God blesses you with comes from that place, your relationship with Him; your marriage, children, job, calling its all because you have a relationship with Him. Relationship is the place where we operate, where we walk, live and depend from. When we are not praying the relationship is weakened, that’s when we loose strength, and things in our lives begin to go wrong. Despite this knowledge among Christians, we know that prayerlessness exist, and we also know that it is the reason why many are still in bondage and are unable to experience victory in their lives.

Isaiah 40:31a NKJV says; “But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength”. “WAITING” is being in the presence of God, praying, strengthening the relationship. “RENEWING” is like recharging our Spiritual batteries, Jesus said “give us this day our ‘daily’ bread”, and we do it everyday.

WHY IS THERE PRAYERLESSNESS? Genesis 3:8 NKJV“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” Hiding “IN” God is prayer; hiding “FROM” God is prayerlessness. Prayerlessness is the result of ‘sin’, the consequence of the fall of man. SIN IS A DISEASE OF THE SPIRIT

The only way to correct our disease is through the cross; we need to bring our disease at the cross of Jesus. There is unlimited power in prayer. Everything that God has, He has put at the disposal of prayer. Prayer can do anything that God can do. John 14:12-14 NIV12I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

What happens when you don’t pray? Job 21:14-15 NIV14Yet they say to God, 'Depart from us, For we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways. 15 Who is the Almighty that we should serve Him? And what profit do we have if we pray to Him?” You loose the fear of God when you don’t pray because you are cutting off your communication with God; you are severing your relationship with your Father. You are trekking on very dangerous territory and the results will be disastrous. The minute sin enters into a person’s heart; the fear of the Lord is lost! When you don’t fear God, you don’t inquire of Him anymore and you just do things as you see fit,  that’s when you become weak and make all the wrong decisions in you life.

Job 21:17 NIV "Yet how often is the lamp of the wicked snuffed out? How often does calamity come upon them, the fate God allots in his anger?” Adam hid from God because he committed sin, there was no fear of God and instead he was afraid of God. THE PRICE OF NEGLECT OF PRAYER IS VERY HIGH! You suffer spiritually, emotionally, physically, your family suffers, your future, even the people around you – everything suffers and falls apart. The enemy becomes stronger in your life and you realize you are back in the same prison as you were; back in bondage.

What is the REMEDY?

1 Corinthians 9:27 NIV “No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”

1 Corinthians 9:27 NKJV “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”

The decision to pray or not to pray lies solely on us, it’s our choice. But the body or the flesh is always against what the Holy Spirit desires for us that’s why we need to discipline it. But most of the time the resistance is strong; that’s when we put it to subjection (beat it), a term used for wrestling which means to pin down; and we need to keep our bodies pinned down! BECAUSE: PRAYERLESSNESS IS DANGEROUS!

Isaiah 40:31 NKJV “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

When you don’t recharge, the batteries go ‘dead’. Spiritual batteries usually take two weeks to recharge! They shall mount up with wings like eagles, when the strength is renewed, your discernment is restored. The eagle would never fly until the thermos is right; they don’t flap their wings, they soar in the wind. A recharged life is a life surrendered to the will of the Spirit; you “mount up” which means you go up to a higher position, promotion in your spirit, in your life!

Deuteronomy 32:13-14 NIV13 He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock, and with oil from the flinty crag, 14 with curds and milk from herd and flock and with fattened lambs and goats, with choice rams of Bashan and the finest kernels of wheat. You drank the foaming blood of the grape.”

Isaiah 40:31 NKJV “They shall run and not be weary; They shall walk and not faint.” Prayerlessness makes you slow down. That means you tag behind God, not walking with God, not having fellowship with God. When you are recharged, you run, you will catch up with God, with the things of God, with the will of God, with the purpose of God. You will walk with God. Not behind God, not ahead of God, not away from God – WITH GOD!

When He goes to the left, you will go to the left; When He goes to the right, you will go to the right; When you pray, you exhale the flesh; you inhale the Holy Spirit. Prayer releases the power of God in your life!
