The Root of Irresponsibility

Change will never happen, unless we allow change to happen, and we will never learn until we are ready to learn! God never calls a meeting for entertainment! Every time He calls us to gather, He has a purpose in His mind – we need to expose that purpose for our lives and for the church. If we are willing and obedient, God will direct our ignorance with His knowledge, so we will be permanently changed and renewed.

Irresponsibility  it is the greatest menace of society today – there is nothing that is as destructible as it to the church, and the family – irresponsible leaders, fathers, Christians! The Church is two thousand years old, but many people in there are still irresponsible – there is gossiping, bickering, competing, hating one another, prejudice, internal jealousies and much more – so immature! Jesus will not marry a little girl, an immature bride, we need to grow up, and we need to grow up NOW! Growing up means TAKING RESPONSIBILITY!

The dictionary says that irresponsibility means reckless, careless, negligent, foolish, rash, immature, undependable, and unreliable. But the bible says it is to not honor authority, no accountability, unable to respond to conscience. Irresponsibility also means unpredictable or fickle minded – you don’t know what they are going to do tomorrow, they submit today, but rebel against you tomorrow – they are wild! Wild means they transfer blame of their behavior to someone else! They don’t want to take responsibility for their actions and their decisions; their only response is anger and backsliding!

  They are experts in blaming the past for their present;

  • Blame their parents for their habits,

  • Blame their teachers for their ignorance,

  • Blame their leaders for their poverty,

  • Blame cigarettes for their cancer, and Tanduay for their hepatitis!

  • Blame the government for unemployment!

  • The poor blame the rich for unfairness,

  • The rich blame the poor for laziness!

  • They blame God for the trash in the flood!

The question we ask is: Where Did The Spirit Of Irresponsibility Come From?

Gen 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. KJV

When God said this to Adam, He was giving Him the responsibility to manage and to oversee Gods creation; not ownership as Ps 24:1 says “The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;”

But in Gen. 3, there came an illegal act, Adam turned over the management rights to an unemployed cherub – Lucifer, Satan! God wanted to retrieve it so He came to talk with His manager:

Gen 3:8-9 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" NKJV

‘Where are you’ is not a question of location but of position! Man was not in his position, he was out of his responsibility! Here entered irresponsibility, when he transferred the blame to the woman!

Gen 3:12  Then the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate." NKJV

The man is the source of woman, she was created from him, he is the head, he sows the seed which means it is he who gives! The woman is merely the soil by which the man plants! What the man sows, the woman multiplies then returns it to the man – give her mans seed, she multiplies and gives the man a child! Give her groceries, she multiplies and gives you a meal!

If you don’t like what you are getting, then change what you are giving! Don’t pass on the blame! This is the meanest form of irresponsibility – blame passing! Ever since that day, God had always desired to bring back man to His original plan – to be a responsible free will agent!

Gen 3:24  So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life. NKJV

God took back what He has assigned to you, He even made sure you can’t sneak in to get it back! If we mismanage something, God will take it away from you! Sometimes we think it’s the devil who took it, but it was really God who took it away because of your irresponsibility! We transfer blame to Satan for our irresponsible behavior, he is so happy taking credit for what he didn’t do, he gets credit for what you caused! Many pray for something but you don’t get it because you are not qualified, you're irresponsible!

Matt 25:23  "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.

God always wanted to bring us back into His original plan– RESPOSIBLE FREE WILL AGENT!

Many of those God is raising today were born in the wilderness, not in Egypt, but they still got the smell of Egypt in them! Egypt is a type of sin, a type of bondage by which we must be set free, while Israel is a type of the church and your personal life.

There Are Three Phases To Freedom:

FIRST PHASE: Bondage – everyone was born in bondage, we were all born in sin; you don’t learn sin or develop sin, we were born in sin, and we cannot free ourselves no matter what we do. That’s why we must be born again!  We cannot be changed by psychology or psychiatry! Only Jesus can set us free from sin and bondage!

PHASE 2: Deliverance: deliverance is not freedom; delivered people are dangerous because they are not yet free, their minds have not yet been changed and renewed. Often times we equate being born again or salvation with sanctification  which is transformation. Salvation is overnight, but transformation takes time.

God will not take delivered people direct to the promised land because they have not yet been freed, God takes them to the wilderness. Wilderness is a training ground designed to take Egypt out of their minds, you pass through the wilderness to get your mind ready for freedom. If you don’t learn your lessons in the wilderness, God will bury you there, that’s why many have been delivered but never seem to get out of their wilderness – poverty, debt, family problems, wife and husband problems, children problems, vice, hopelessness, fear, doubt, you name it! They remain in their irresponsible attitude, they blame their past, they continue to grumble and complain, they never mature;  God will never allow Egypt to enter Canaan!

When Jesus was born, He was by very nature man, He was in a very hostile environment – oppressed under Roman rule, pay taxes.  He had to work… but you never hear Jesus grumbling nor complaining, He took on His responsibility! When the Israelites were delivered, they had to pass the Red sea which was their first baptism, Jesus too had His Red sea baptism from John at the Jordan! After the Red sea the Israelites went to the wilderness, so did Jesus:

Luke 4:1  Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, NKJV

It Was The Holy Spirit That Led Jesus! Will the Holy Spirit lead me into trouble? NO, He will lead you into your training, He can only trust you after He has trained you, then He will test you!

Prov 23:7  For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

God saved your soul, but He can’t trust your mind, that’s why it has to be renewed:

Rom 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

If your mind does not change, then you are not changed, no matter how you dance or sing, it doesn’t matter, you need to pass through the wilderness no matter who you are! It doesn’t matter how big your vision is, or how much money you give, you must be able to pass thru your wilderness.

PHASE 3: The Tests, you will be tested by God in three areas in your wilderness.

1. your appetites – (stone to bread) food, sex, and other desires of the flesh.

2. power (the kingdoms of the world) if you want it, your motives will be weighed, but if you don’t want it, God will give it to you.

3. pride and tantrums (throw yourself down) most subtle way of the enemy for irresponsibility, ‘self-centeredness’, only you matter, ‘GGSS!’

When the Israelites were in bondage they prayed and shouted for freedom, but when they got delivered, they murmured and complained. They didn’t realize that freedom and responsibility go hand in hand! When they were first delivered, everything was for free: free food, free clothes and shoes, free electricity, free air conditioner, free water, free miracles; but despite of all these, they still grumbled!

Despite being born again, many act as if they were still in Egypt – still having the old attitude! But the time will come when God will say ‘ENOUGH’, if you don’t pass your wilderness, God will bury you there!

Joshua 5:2-12 reveals to us the season where the church is today.

Josh 5:2 Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again."

Josh 5:7  So he raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones Joshua circumcised. They were still uncircumcised because they had not been circumcised on the way.

God didn’t bury them all at the same time in the wilderness because He was waiting for their children, they were not circumcised in the desert because God didn’t want any mark on them before they got to the promised land.  God was waiting for the younger generation – the youth, to fulfill His purpose for the church!

Josh 5:9  Then the Lord said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you."

Reproach means shame, disgrace, blame. God is taking away the shame and disgrace of the past, and He will use the youth of today! Small wonder why the devil wants to destroy the youth, he will destroy tomorrow today! We cannot allow that to happen, we need to fight on our knees for the youth of the world today! Slavery is a dangerous thing, we must circumcise our hearts again, we cannot be free and still live like we were in Egypt or even like Egypt!

Josh 5:12  The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate of the produce of Canaan.

In the promised land you don’t go out to look for free meals, you don’t look for manna, you look for management, God is making you responsible. You must sew your own clothes, buy your own shoes, pay for electricity and water, this is what freedom means – learning to be responsible!

Josh 1:5  No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

You need to understand, it’s not the same, in the promised land you would sometimes feel that God is not with you, you see no pillar of cloud or fire, He is not working in the same way as with the old folks, but He is definitely with you! God is so wise, in the wilderness God worked for Moses, in the promised land, God worked with Joshua! Many still want God to do everything for them, but God wants you to be responsible, He will help you, but you need to do the work – you need to pray, read the Word, don’t wait for people to give you food or do things for you.

Responsibility – being responsible, you do it because you know it’s the right thing to do! Doing the right things leads to maturity. Maturity is when you make the right choices in your life, you may be young, it doesn’t matter. There is no greater burden than freedom, there’s no heavier load than liberty! The security of slavery is in the absence of responsibility, and people like slavery because in slavery, you don’t have to be responsible!

Eccl 10:16  Woe to you, O land whose king was a servant (slave).
