The Hardened Heart Part 2

Where the heart of a man is, that’s where he really is, when you lose your heart for the people, you will only see people as business. You cannot go to God with just an open mind, because an open mind is the same as a hardened heart – that won’t do anything good to you! An open mind always wants to take, but it doesn’t want to give!

Hebrews 3:7-11 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you will hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. 10 Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, 'They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.' 11 So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest.’” NKJV

Hebrews 3:12-15  12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.      14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion." NKJV

Periodically, God comes to check and probe our hearts and our motives why do we do what we do? We need to ask ourselves, what have we done with what God has given us? If you were hungry and thirsty for God, definitely you would have changed, you would have been transformed – you are no longer the same person as you were before because you dealt with your heart! If you change your heart, you change your life! This is the season where God is dealing with the heart – He is calling all of us into account, He is measuring our motives and intentions.

God has set His plumb line, and to everyone who will pass this examination, God will renew your season because there will be an acceleration in the spirit! When the heart is clogged up, everything becomes stagnant; it releases a foul smell of bad attitude, evil thoughts, and evil motives; But if the heart is changed, acceleration comes and there comes a greater move of signs and wonders, greater release of wealth and finance, greater manifestations of His Glory for the church and His people; But if your heart is wrong, then God cannot do this, you will be out of season, dry and stagnant!

What is the heart?

It is the Greek word kardia or kardias, it is the center and seat of spiritual life, the soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, endeavors, it is our conscience.

Matt. 15:18-20 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.  19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.  20 These are the things which defile a man ...NKJV

Prov. 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

What Are The Causes Of A Hardened Heart?

Sin

Offenses

Wounds

Rebellion

Disobedience

Unbelief

How can a person determine if he has a hardened heart? What are the signs?

Mark 8:17-18 Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don't you remember?

 1. You Don’t See, You Don’t Hear, You Don’t Remember, You Don’t Feel.

This means there is no more compassion – you see people in need and you don’t feel anything, people don’t know Christ and you do nothing, you see someone doing something not right and you just mind your own business, they should mind their own business also. People who don’t see are people who just really don’t want to look, as long as the money is coming in, they are ok, that’s it. These are people who don’t feel for other people, they only care about themselves and what they want to do. These are people who can’t discern in the spirit, they cannot perceive; but they will always say “God spoke to me,” just to make you think they are ok. This is not just a hardening of the heart; it’s a sign of spiritual death.

2. They begin to rebel against Gods Word and His delegated authority.

This happens when people get a rebuke from the pastor or an authority, they feel resentment and they harbor offense, they will smile at you, yet deep inside they are angry and resentful. It’s when the Word they heard doesn’t happen and they begin to close their heart unto the Lord, they want to be alone, they would go to a place where nobody knows them, they don’t want fellowship. They will still go to church, but like hard soil, no water ever sinks in – they just want to soothe their conscience and feel good. In the area where your heart is closed, that’s the area where you will resist God; if your heart is closed up on money, you won’t give what is due to God but instead you will only give the left-over's.

3. You Turn Your Back On Your Commitments, You Retract On Your Promises To God And  the Church.

When you are always late or always absent without any valid reason, that’s turning back on your commitment, when you say you changed your mind as to what you have promised, when you find no joy in carrying out your service to the Lord – that’s turning back!

 4. When You Do Things That Are Against Church Policies Or Accepted Doctrines, But Don’t Want Anybody To Say Anything To You.

 5. When You Work Mechanically.

Their mind is there, but their heart is not! They come to church and go through the motion of singing, dancing, listening to the preaching, but when you go home, nothing has changed! You are the same person with the same bad habits, same bad attitude, same disobedience and disrespect for other people and especially authority, your heart is hardened!

You need to understand, we cannot work mechanically, like worship – worship is from the heart and not from the mind, same with giving, dancing, listening to the Word, prayer…It is possible to do something and still the heart is not there – when you do things for the Lord without your heart that is called ‘religion’! Anything you do that your heart is not in it, it will not last – marriage and even every relationships, ministry, business, family, any commitment you may enter into…They all need your full commitment-that includes your heart!

Deut. 6:5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. KJV

Matt. 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Where the heart of a man is, that’s where he really is, when you lose your heart for the people, you will only see people as business. You cannot go to God with just an open mind, because an open mind is the same as a hardened heart – that won’t do anything good to you! An open mind always wants to take, but it doesn’t want to give!

Until the heart opens and softens, it isn’t a relationship – if you won’t open your heart, you won’t know God, you won’t know that person! Without emotions, you cannot come into contact with God, you cannot come into contact with any person – emotions are a sign of a soft heart!

The last sign of a hardened heart I will give you today is:

 6. You Don’t Feel the Presence of God Anymore, you don’t feel for God anymore.

You don’t want to read your bible, it’s so hard to keep with the 3 and 5 chapters, it’s so hard to pray, you have more important things to do…

Q? When was the last time you cried unto God while you were worshipping, while you were praying?

I told you, emotions are a sign of a soft heart! You only need to watch the people during the praise and worship, watch their body language, you will know who is worshipping and who is just singing. The danger of the hardened heart is the scar you have put upon your conscience – you begin to call the bad things good, and you call the good things bad, you are now criticizing what you used to celebrate.

When the conscience is being seared, that’s when apostasy comes in; so if God sees that there is a hardened heart, He will come down heavy on you so you will break and not be hardened! The problem with so many people is, they refuse to soften up and instead, they harden their hearts even more!

But because God loves us all so much, He comes down even heavier on you just to break you – every person has a breaking point. The flesh makes the heart hard because the flesh always represents self – anything void of the influence of the Holy Spirit is flesh!

 God will cut the flesh – circumcise;

Circumcision will result into innocence!

Crying is a means of yielding unto God!

Jer. 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your hearts, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done — burn with no one to quench it.

Rom 2:29 and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.
